Beloved Harlan Caregiver Amethyst Phipps Passes Away at 45
Harlan mourns the loss of cherished caregiver Amethyst Phipps, who devoted over 19 years to nurturing the community's elderly at Elm Crest. Remembered for her warmth and love for family and friends, her legacy shines brightly in the hearts she's touched.
Amethyst Marie Phipps, a lifelong resident of Harlan, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at the age of 45. Born on November 21, 1978, to Letha Schrader and David Phipps, Amethyst was known for her deep love for her friends’ children, often taking on the role of “Aunt Aimee.”
For over 19 years, she dedicated her life to caregiving as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Elm Crest Senior Living, where she was cherished by residents for her compassionate approach.
A lover of music, reading, and all things 70s/80s pop culture, Amethyst enjoyed rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs and spending time with her beloved cats.
She is survived by her father, David, and sister, Sonjia Smith, both from Harlan. A memorial service was held at Pauley Jones Funeral Home on August 16, 2024.
