Beloved Harlan Community Member Lyle Porter Passes Away at 85

Lyle Porter, a beloved member of the Harlan community, passed away recently at Hansen House in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 85. Born on October 6, 1939, in Laurel, Nebraska, Lyle served in the U.S. Army and later became a well-known mechanic, owning Porter's Truck Repair in Omaha.

Active in the local softball community and passionate about dancing, Lyle also enjoyed participating in the Greater Omaha Horseshoe League.

He is survived by his son, Ray Porter, of Harlan, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, his son Jay, and his brother Roger.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and memorial contributions can be directed to the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.
