Beloved Harlan Matriarch Madonna Kramer Passes Away at 95
The Harlan community mourns the loss of Madonna Kramer, a beloved matriarch who brightened lives with her spirit, service, and culinary talents. Her dedication to family and faith leaves a lasting legacy that will be cherished in Harlan for generations.

Madonna Kramer, a cherished member of the Harlan community, passed away on March 19, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on June 20, 1929, in Earling, Iowa, she was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Madonna married Alfons “Mike” Kramer in 1948 and raised seven children while working as a CNA at Little Flower Haven for 37 years. Known for her baking, sewing, and community service, she often prepared meals for local events.
In her later years, she made her home at Elm Crest Senior Living in Harlan, where her warmth and vibrant spirit continued to touch the lives of those around her. Her family held special traditions in her honor, including celebrating milestone birthdays with a "Zero Party."
Madonna leaves behind her children, 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, as well as a legacy of love and community involvement. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 24, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
