Walter J. Bernard, Jr., a former resident of Harlan, Iowa, passed away on February 20, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on April 29, 1934, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Walter was a passionate pastor who served various congregations across South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa throughout his ministry.
Walter was dedicated to nurturing faith in the community, notably through Vacation Bible Schools and youth events. He graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1978 and retired from ministry in 2004, spending his retirement years in Harlan with his wives, Helen and Verlee Muller, both of whom have passed.
After moving to Forest, Virginia, he remained active in his new community, contributing to local church activities and enjoying family time. Walter is survived by his daughters and grandchildren, along with many friends and relatives.
