Beloved Harlan Resident Alma Book Passes at 92

Alma Marie Book, a beloved member of the Harlan community, passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 92.

Born on January 13, 1933, in Defiance, Iowa, Alma was the daughter of Arthur and Magdelina Book. After completing her education at St. Paul Catholic School, she worked in various secretarial roles in Omaha before moving to California. In the 1970s, she returned to her roots in Harlan, where she spent nearly 30 years at the Country Care Center and was involved with CDS.

Alma later resided at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids and St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, where she enjoyed time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Schultes of Audubon, five grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, along with extended family and friends.
