Beloved Harlan Resident Bonnie Eggerss Passes at 91

Bonnie Mae Messerschmidt Eggerss, a cherished Harlan resident, passed away on September 18, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on March 6, 1934, in Shelby County, Bonnie was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelby, where she actively contributed for decades, including serving as Moderator of the Presbyterian Women and leading Sunday School classes.

She married Ronald Eggerss in 1953, and together they farmed while raising their three children: Kimberli, Roger, and Pamela. Bonnie was also dedicated to the Shelby Women's Legion Auxiliary, the Shelby-Tennant Alumni Association, and enjoyed ceramics, gardening, and watching college basketball.

Bonnie's memory will be honored with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, at Heartland Funeral Home in Harlan, followed by funeral services on Tuesday, September 23, at the United Methodist Church in Shelby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby Fire Department.
