Judith Rose Peterson-Knight, a lifelong resident of Harlan, Iowa, passed away on September 7, 2025, at a memory care facility in Council Bluffs. Born on March 31, 1938, she grew up on a farm near Harlan and graduated from Harlan High School in 1956.
Judy was known for her love of animals and spent many of her later years enjoying travel, golf, and family. After marrying Leonard Kay, she lived in Germany while he served in the U.S. Army. The couple later moved back to Harlan after forming a family. In 1970, she married Clay Sanders, with whom she farmed south of Harlan before relocating to Missouri. After Clay’s death in 2009 and a second marriage to Leslie Knight in 2011, Judy faced health challenges before her passing.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, September 12, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, with burial at the Harlan Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Nebraska Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
