Beloved Harlan Teacher Sally Bugge Passes at 89

Sally Mae Bugge, a former Harlan resident, passed away at the age of 89 on July 8, 2025, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Born on March 11, 1936, she was the daughter of Otis and Iva Gearhart.

During her life, Sally dedicated many years working with children, serving as a teacher's associate at both Broadway United Methodist Church and in the Council Bluffs Community School District. A longtime member of Timothy Lutheran Church, she actively participated in the choir and taught Sunday School.

Sally is survived by her daughter Deborah, son Duane, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Bugge, who she was married to for 52 years, and other beloved family members.

A visitation will take place on July 10 at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service on July 11. Memorials will be directed by the family.
