Boil Advisory Issued for Regional Water Customers in Shelby County
A boil advisory is in effect for Regional Water customers near the Avoca Treatment Plant, impacting Shelby County. Due to a distribution system issue amid drought conditions, residents must boil water for safety. Stay updated on this urgent situation!

A boil advisory has been issued for Regional Water customers, specifically for those served by the Avoca Treatment Plant. This affects areas in southwest Iowa, including Shelby County, but not Underwood, McClelland, or Weston.
The advisory was prompted by a depressurization incident in the distribution system, caused by high water demand during a difficult drought period. Due to these conditions, customers are urged to boil their water before using it for drinking, cooking, or making ice. Boiling is essential to eliminate potential bacterial contamination.
To ensure safety, water should be boiled for one minute and allowed to cool before use. It’s safe for bathing but if the water appears discolored, an alternative source, such as bottled water, should be used.
The Regional Water Office is actively addressing the issue with the help of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and is working to restore normal service. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and to monitor for updates regarding when the advisory will be lifted.
