Celebrating the Life of Harlan Native John Wells Jr.

John William Wells Jr., a beloved resident of Defiance, Iowa, passed away on January 7, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on May 14, 1960, in Harlan, John grew up in the area, attending St. Paul’s Catholic School in Defiance before graduating from Harlan Community High School in 1978.

John had an impressive career, working at various local businesses including the Dubuque Packing House and Deba and Petersen Manufacturing. He was also a talented welder and motorcycle enthusiast, founding Defiance Small Engines to serve the community with mower repairs.

A dedicated father, John leaves behind four children: John, Dillon, Crystal, and Angelina. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, riding his Spyder motorcycle, and helping friends with yard work. He was an active member of his church, deeply committed to his faith.

His Celebration of Life Services will take place on January 22, 2025, at Faith Family Church in Harlan, with visitation on January 21 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home.
