Helen Ann Juelsgaard, a longtime resident with deep roots in Shelby County, passed away just shy of her 102nd birthday. Born on October 24, 1922, near Defiance, she was the beloved child of Nicholas and Mary Kenkel and the second of ten siblings.
Helen spent many productive years working with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration in Harlan before marrying Glen Juelsgaard in 1947. They farmed in the Atlantic and Walnut areas, instilling strong values in their ten children, including hard work and independence.
An active member of her community, Helen contributed to various local organizations, from teaching catechism to serving as a church organist for over 60 years. Known for her warmth, she hosted many visitors with coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls, fostering connections within her community.
Her life was richly filled with family and service until she moved to Hansen House in 2022. After a brief stay in a health care center in Ankeny, she passed away in November 2023.
