Cyclones Aim for State Tournament in New Basketball Season
Harlan's girls basketball team is set to chase glory this season, fueled by senior star Abrey Schwieso and a promising lineup. With fresh talent and a strong frontcourt, they're focused on returning to the state tournament amidst tough Hawkeye Ten competition.
Harlan's girls basketball team is gearing up for an exciting season as they aim to return to the state tournament after a successful 20-4 campaign last year. The Cyclones will miss standout player Erica Rust, who has moved on to Simpson College, but they're bolstered by the return of senior Abrey Schwieso. Schwieso led the team with 14.1 points per game last season and is expected to shine again this year.
Head Coach Zach Klaassen is optimistic about the potential of the team's new lineup, featuring a strong frontcourt with 6-1 Grace Albertsen and 6-3 Brinley Van Baale, giving Harlan a significant advantage. Another returning starter, senior Molly Swenson, contributed impressively from three-point range, while freshman Kenzley Bruck steps up to fill a starting role.
The Cyclones look to overcome tough competition in the Hawkeye Ten, especially after finishing behind St. Albert and Lewis Central last year. Harlan's season kicks off on November 26 against Treynor.
