The HCHS Cyclones cross country teams recently showcased their talent at the Shenandoah Early Bird Meet, with the girls team claiming first place among 13 schools. The Cyclones scored 32 points, finishing ahead of Treynor, who placed second with 44 points.
Highlights from the girls' race included strong finishes from five runners in the top 15. Lindsey Sonderman took second place with a time of 20:33.96, while Ashlyn Rau and Brylee Schechinger finished 4th and 5th, respectively. Assistant Coach Dillon Stane praised the team's dedication over the summer, noting the positive impact on their performance.
On the boys' side, Jeffrey Gross was the fastest Cyclone, finishing 10th overall. The boys' team placed sixth, behind race winner Red Oak.
Looking ahead, the Cyclones will compete in the Gary Meyer Invitational on September 10 at Prairie Rose Golf Course, where 17 schools are expected to participate. The team is eager to face new competitors and aims for continued success.
