The HCHS Cyclones football team is gearing up for their first win of the season as they face off against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs this Friday night at Merrill Field.
After a tough 31-10 loss to the Lewis Central Titans, senior Lukas Francis is optimistic, stating, "You’ve just got to move past that and move on to greater things."
The Monarchs, riding a 1-0 record after their recent victory against Council Bluffs Jefferson, are expected to challenge the Cyclones. They finished last season with a strong 7-3 record and will bring a dynamic offense led by senior Luke Wiebers, who achieved impressive passing and tackling stats.
This matchup is particularly special for new Monarch head coach Willie Baughman, a former Cyclone. He expressed excitement about returning to Harlan with a team he once played for.
The Cyclones showed promise in their season opener with standout performances from Francis, who rushed for 132 yards, and junior Ayden Redmon, who scored a touchdown.
Don't miss the action this Friday night as the Cyclones look to bounce back!
