Cyclones Reflect on Season: Bright Future Ahead
The Harlan girls basketball team may have missed the state tournament, but their 18-5 record and standout performances from seniors shine a silver lining. With promising young talents set to step up, the Cyclones are gearing up for an exciting future. Discover more!

The Harlan girls basketball team finished the season with a strong 18-5 record, but high expectations left them feeling disappointed as they fell short of reaching the state tournament. Head Coach Zach Klaassen emphasized that the team's goal every year is to compete for a state title. Despite the setback, the Cyclones celebrated individual achievements, particularly from their three departing seniors: Aubrey Schweiso, Grace Albertsen, and Molly Swensen.
Looking ahead, the team must fill the significant void left by these seniors. Klaassen noted that replacing the talented guards will be challenging. Among next year’s prospects, they have promising sophomores like Brinley Van Baale and Kenzley Bruck, who showed great potential this season. Bruck, in particular, averaged 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and is expected to be a focal point for defenses in the upcoming season.
With returning juniors Katelyn Koesters and Addison Wicks also likely to play bigger roles, the Cyclones are poised to come back strong after their playoff exit. For further insights, check out the full interview with Coach Klaassen on Harlan Insider: Read more here.
