Cyclones Volleyball Off to Strong Start Under New Coach

(Harlan, IA) — The Harlan Cyclones Volleyball team is off to an impressive start this season, securing four wins in their first week under new Head Coach Amber Brown. This marks a significant improvement from last year's total of nine wins.

Despite the absence of their leading hitter Aubrey Schweiso and a key injury to Senior Kenzley Bruck, players have stepped up. Senior Hope Preston leads the team with 26 kills, followed by Senior Ellerie Nelson with 25 kills, Junior Taylor Heese with 21, and Junior Aubree Wagner with 18.

Using a 5-2 offensive strategy, the Cyclones are also benefiting from the skills of setters Senior Katelyn Koesters and Junior Taylor Heese, who have combined for 82 assists. Senior Carly Torneten anchors the defense with 40 digs, while Junior Avery Manz and Nelson support the back line.

This is Amber Brown's first high school varsity head coaching role, and her coaching style has quickly resonated with the team. The Cyclones, currently at 4-4, are set to kick off their Hawkeye Ten Conference play this Thursday at Denison Schleswig.
