Portsmouth Fire Chief Mike Leinen noted that dry conditions and strong winds exacerbated the situation, but fortunately, most crops had been harvested. He highlighted the commendable support from local farmers who assisted by discing the area, which was crucial in combating the spread of the fire.
By using their heavy equipment, these farmers were instrumental in preventing further damage, showing the strong community spirit in Shelby County. Leinen expressed gratitude for their efforts and the willingness of residents to support one another during emergencies.
