Free Mental Health First Aid Training Coming to Harlan

In an effort to tackle the growing mental health crisis, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering a Mental Health First Aid training session in Harlan on Thursday, February 13, 2025. This comprehensive course will equip participants with skills to identify and respond to mental health or substance use challenges.
With one in five Americans affected by mental health issues, the training aims to help community members better support those in need. Participants will learn a five-step Action Plan to safely assist individuals experiencing mental health crises, much like CPR does for physical emergencies.
The session is free of charge, thanks to FEMA grant funding, and will be held at Myrtue Medical Center located at 1213 Garfield Ave. in Harlan. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, but space is limited to the first 30 registrants.
