Grandma B's Dream Playground Set to Open This Spring

Construction is progressing on Grandma B's Dream Playground at Pioneer Park in Harlan. Thanks to the recent warm weather, crews have made significant strides, but city officials now anticipate the playground will open in spring due to safety surfacing requirements.

Park Superintendent Tim Miller explained that the poured-in-place rubber surfacing must be installed when temperatures are consistently above 35°F. This safety feature is crucial for accessibility and reducing fall risks, making it imperative to complete before allowing public use.

The playground equipment, featuring slides, climbing structures, and an inclusive merry-go-round, is nearly finished. Workers are now focusing on the parking lot and restroom construction, with a security fence and cameras set up to ensure safety until the official opening.

A recognition display will honor major donors who contributed to this community project, which still welcomes additional donations. A grand re-opening celebration is tentatively scheduled for May, but officials hope to welcome residents to the playground before then.
