Harlan residents are saying goodbye to a beloved local figure as Virginia Smith, longtime manager of Taylor Quik Pik, prepares for retirement at the end of the year. After 13 years at the helm, Smith has fond memories of interacting with customers, many of whom she watched grow up.
Smith cherished her job and often worked 80–100 hours a week, sacrificing family time for her role. Among her career highlights was winning a trip to Dubai in 2018 after her store ranked in the top one percent of her region. There, she enjoyed unique experiences like visiting the Burj Khalifa and riding a camel.
On December 9, a retirement party was held to honor her contributions, attended by customers, colleagues, and Chamber of Commerce members. Smith expressed deep gratitude for the support she received throughout her career.
After her last day on December 31, she plans to relocate to Hastings, NE, to spend more time with her family.
