The Harlan community is mourning the loss of Eugene “Dale” Travis, who passed away on November 28, 2024, at the age of 47. Known for his dedication and love for his family, Gene had deep connections in Harlan, especially with his brothers Marvin and Danny.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home, followed by a Prayer Service. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City, Missouri.
Gene, originally from Fairfax, Missouri, moved to Harlan in his 20s to work as a shop mechanic at Panama Transfer. He was admired for his strong work ethic and enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly raising chickens and visiting Big Lake.
He is survived by his three brothers, numerous nieces and nephews, and a devoted girlfriend. Gene’s legacy of love and laughter will be cherished by all who knew him.
