The Harlan girls basketball team is on a roll, currently boasting a record of 13-3 and riding a six-game winning streak. Ranked No. 14 in Class 3A, the Cyclones have rebounded impressively from an early 0-2 start.
After tough losses to state-rated teams, Harlan secured its first win against Shenandoah and continued to build momentum with victories over several opponents, including Kuemper Catholic and Glenwood. Head coach Zach Klaassen highlights the team’s improvements, emphasizing better management of turnovers that plagued them at the beginning of the season.
Senior Aubrey Schwieso has been a standout player, averaging 15.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Another key contributor, Grace Albertsen, has made significant strides in her performance, increasing her scoring average to 14.9 points.
Looking ahead, the Cyclones aim to enhance their three-point shooting as they prepare for upcoming games, including a match against Maryville this Thursday. The team is focused on making a second consecutive trip to the state tournament.
