Bishop Heelan edged out Harlan in a thrilling 4-2 game to secure a spot in the 3A Baseball State Tournament held at Lewis & Clark Park.
The Crusaders scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Hunter Wauhob’s sacrifice fly. Harlan fought back, trailing until the sixth inning when they took a brief 2-1 lead with a two-run hit from Landon Kaufmann.
However, Heelan quickly responded in their half of the sixth, regaining the lead with a crucial balk that allowed the tying run to score. They sealed their victory with an additional run, finishing the game at 4-2.
Harlan's season ends with a strong record of 25-12. Despite the loss, standout performances included Hayden Soma, who went 2-4, and Jonas Reynolds, who pitched effectively for over five innings.
The Crusaders move forward with a 29-10 record and will face #6 Carlisle in the state tournament.
