Harlan native Brett Sears is making impressive strides in the Atlanta Braves' farm system. After starting as an uncertain pitcher just two years ago, the former Harlan graduate is now competing with Double-A Columbus in the Southern League.
Most recently, Sears delivered a standout performance, pitching six scoreless innings to secure a victory over the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Drafted by the Braves in 2022, he has quickly risen through the ranks, posting solid statistics at various levels, including a 9-1 record with a 2.16 ERA during his All-American season with the University of Nebraska.
Despite not being among the top prospects, his journey from low A to AAA in just one season shows promise of a bright future. Sears attributes his success to perseverance and building confidence in his skills.
Sears’s younger brother, Cade, is also following in his footsteps, having recently accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Vanderbilt.
