Harlan Library Launches Little Free Pantry to Fight Hunger
The Harlan Community Library has unveiled a Little Free Pantry to tackle food insecurity right in downtown Harlan. Aiming to provide support to families facing rising grocery costs, the initiative invites residents to take or donate non-perishable food items.

The Harlan Community Library has launched a Little Free Pantry to combat food insecurity in the area. This initiative encourages residents to "Take what you need. Leave what you can," aiming to support families struggling with the rising cost of groceries.
Emily Kurth-Christensen, the library's Youth Services Librarian, expressed hope that this pantry will assist many people in the downtown Harlan area. With around 11% of Iowa's population facing hunger, the library invites the community to contribute to this important resource.
Located at 718 Court St., the pantry is accessible during library hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday until 8 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Donations are welcomed but must be non-perishable, unopened, and free of expired items. Monetary contributions can also be made at the circulation desk.
