Harlan Lights Up: Holiday Competition and Food Drive Return

Harlan is bringing back its beloved holiday traditions with a festive light competition and a food drive this season. Organizer Danielle Martin saw a need for more community joy and rallied support through social media, leading to enthusiastic participation from families.

Initially starting with 15 homes registered, the competition has rapidly grown to over 25 participants. Residents are excited to rediscover Harlan’s nickname, “City of Lights,” as they adorn their homes with cheerful decorations.

The competition involves community voting on Facebook, with the top three homes advancing to a final judging round for prizes. The event not only lights up the streets but also supports local churches through a food drive, ensuring those in need can access resources more frequently than the food pantry allows.

This revival of holiday spirit has united the community, marking a joyful turning point for Harlan.
