Two mock trial teams from Harlan Community Middle School recently showcased their skills at a regional competition held at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs on November 7. Both the 8th and 7th grade teams achieved impressive victories, each winning against teams from Lewis Central and Nodaway Valley.
The 7th grade team stood out by earning the highest overall points, earning them a spot in the Iowa Middle School Mock Trial State Tournament set for December 1-3 in Des Moines. The competition this year centers on a case involving a college student accused of arson in a chemistry lab.
Several HCMS students received accolades for their performances, with top attorneys and witnesses recognized from both teams. Notable students included Kinsey Donahoo, Brinkley Reischl, and Kamryn Scheve in 7th grade, and Reghan Christensen and Maggie Petersen in 8th grade.
