Harlan Prepares for 42nd Annual Carstens Farm Days

Residents of Harlan can look forward to a weekend filled with family fun at the 42nd Annual Carstens Farm Days on September 7 and 8, held at the historic Carstens 1880 Farmstead near Shelby, Iowa.

This beloved event celebrates Iowa's agricultural heritage, featuring live demonstrations, antique farm equipment, and over 250 vintage tractors. Attendees can enjoy a parade of classic vehicles each day at 2 p.m., along with ongoing demonstrations like threshing, plowing, and blacksmithing.

In addition to the tractors and exhibits, nearly 100 vendors will showcase crafts, tools, and unique items. Music lovers can enjoy performances by local artists, including the all-women string band, Flatwater Drifters.

Food options are abundant with a pancake breakfast to kick off the mornings and a special chicken dinner on Saturday evening. Admission costs $10 per day for attendees over nine years old.
