Harlan Remembers Jerald Wigness: A Legacy of Service and Community

Harlan community member Jerald Christian Wigness passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, at the age of 84, in San Benito, Texas. Born on January 26, 1940, in Harlan, he was a proud graduate of Harlan High School and attended Iowa State University.

Jerald dedicated much of his career to the family business, Wigness Farm Equipment, and worked at Roecker Ford and Hallett Materials before retiring in 2005. He stayed active in the community through numerous volunteer efforts, notably serving as Chief of the Harlan Fire Department from 1974 to 1982.

He enjoyed hobbies like gardening and stone polishing and was known as a talented "Mr. Fix It" for his mechanical skills. Jerald is survived by his wife, Linda, and their three children: Craig, Cindy, and Denise, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
