John Anthony Wingert, a beloved figure from Harlan, Iowa, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 67, after battling peripheral vascular disease.
Born on May 19, 1958, he spent his early years in Harlan, where his love for agriculture flourished. A graduate of the Shelby Community School in 1976, John was an active member of the Future Farmers of America and played football.
In 1982, he married Lee Wilson, welcoming her three children into his life. John's dedication to farming led him to a successful career in grain hauling, keeping him closely connected to the land he cherished.
He was known for his quick wit, straight talk, and his loyal companions—his grandson Spencer and his dog Voo Doo. John leaves behind a legacy of hard work and family devotion.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs. Memorial contributions can be directed by the family.
