Harlan Remembers Navy Veteran Thomas Wunder Sr.

Thomas Arthur Wunder Sr., a Harlan, Iowa native and a dedicated former U.S. Navy Senior Chief, passed away on November 18, 2024, in Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 79.

Tom had a distinguished 22-year naval career, retiring in 1986 before serving as a Nuclear Propulsion instructor at Norfolk Naval Shipyard until 2007. He was actively involved in the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce L. Wunder, alongside two children, Joseph C. Wunder and Angela M. Turner, as well as several grandchildren and siblings. Tom was known for his love of family gatherings and was particularly famous for his delicious yeast rolls during holiday celebrations.

A funeral service will be held on November 26, 2024, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newport News, Virginia, followed by a military honors interment.
