The Regional Water Rural Water Association has issued a "Level RED" drinking water advisory, effective May 14, due to declining water levels in their wellfield and high usage rates. This advisory impacts communities served by the Avoca Treatment Plant System, which includes several areas in Shelby County and neighboring counties.
General Manager Tom Kallman noted that the advisory aims to protect the limited water supply, prioritizing water for drinking, hygiene, and cooking. Under these new restrictions, outdoor watering, vehicle washing, and filling pools are prohibited. Additionally, restaurants can only serve water upon request, and lodging facilities are encouraged to promote linen reuse.
Residents are urged to conserve water by taking shorter showers and running appliances only with full loads. Violations may lead to fines or service restrictions.
A boil advisory is also in effect for the affected areas. For further details, residents can contact the Regional Water Office at 712-343-2413.
