Harlan School Board Discusses Budget and Future Calendar

The Harlan Community School District Board of Education met on March 24 to discuss the upcoming budget and the school calendar for 2025-26. Board President Greg Bladt presided over the meeting, attended by key members and administrators, including Finance Director Brian Gubbels, who outlined financial priorities for the new fiscal year during the budget hearing.

Community members shared their thoughts on the proposed budget, and a second public hearing is scheduled for April 21, 2025, at 5 p.m. Dr. Jenny Barnett presented the 2025-26 school calendar, with no public comments made during this session.

Additionally, the board celebrated a $119,070 grant from Open Sci-Ed and noted that the district was named Non-Profit of the Year by the Shelby County Chamber. The board approved several items, including the Personnel Report and a contract for bulk food purchases at reduced rates.
