Exciting transformations are underway in Harlan as the School District enhances its facilities for future generations. A new $22.9 million intermediate building is rising, with innovative designs for 3rd to 5th graders. Discover how these upgrades will impact our community!
As the 2024-25 school year kicks off, the Harlan School District is making significant strides in its facility upgrades.
A new intermediate building is taking shape, supported by a $22.9 million bond passed by local voters in September 2022. Harlan School Superintendent Jenny Barnett reported that the framing is complete, with crews currently working on HVAC, electrical systems, and drywall installation. The building will house 3rd to 5th graders in dedicated "neighborhoods," featuring outdoor classrooms and a central park area.
Meanwhile, renovations at Harlan High School are also underway, including updates to the auditorium and numerous classrooms. Barnett noted that construction has gone smoothly, with most electrical work finished and new drywall going up. Temporary classrooms, dubbed "Cyclone Village," are being used until renovations are completed.
Both projects are on track for completion by August 2025, in time for the 2025-26 school year.
