Harlan School District's $22.9M Renovation Nears Completion

Construction is making significant strides in the Harlan School District this summer, following the approval of a $22.9 million bond in September 2022 for a much-needed facilities overhaul.

Superintendent Jenny Barnett announced that the new intermediate building, set to accommodate 3rd to 5th graders, is nearing completion, with interior finishes underway. The old intermediate building was recently demolished, paving the way for a new playground.

As preparations continue for the new school year, improvements at the high school include upgraded locker rooms, new team rooms for events, and enhancements to the Hall of Excellence and library spaces.

Excitingly, a time capsule from the original 1965 construction of the old intermediate was opened, revealing historical treasures that reflect the district's growth over the years.

Most renovations are expected to be finalized before the start of the 2025-26 school year, with safety upgrades also in progress.
