Harlan Schools Unveil Modern Facilities with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The Harlan Community School District has celebrated the opening of its new intermediate school and the renovation of the high school with a ribbon-cutting event and guided tours. Superintendent Dr. Jenny Barnett highlighted the need for modern learning environments that support hands-on collaboration and ensure the safety of students and teachers.

The newly constructed facilities feature an open concept design, enhanced natural light, and flexible seating arrangements. This modernization aims to foster a more effective learning atmosphere for students.

Architect Courtney Koch praised the project, noting that it sets a standard for future school designs in the neighborhood. The project, totaling approximately $32 million, was funded by a combination of a $22 million bond issue approved by community voters in September 2022 and $9.1 million in state funding.

Residents are encouraged to visit the district to explore these exciting new educational spaces.
