Vanessa Martin has officially taken office as Harlan’s new Postmaster. She was sworn in on September 10, with Rich Foust, Manager of Post Office Operations, administering the oath.
Martin, who has 19 years of experience with the U.S. Postal Service, transferred to Harlan in January and accepted the Postmaster role in April. Originally from Glenwood, she expressed her excitement about returning to Southwest Iowa and embracing her new responsibilities.
In her role, Martin also oversees post offices in nearby Defiance, Earling, Panama, Elk Horn, and Kimballton. She emphasized the diverse nature of her job, stating that no two days are alike, whether she's handling payroll or working in customer service.
Grateful for her supportive local team of 23 staff members, Martin believes their knowledge of the community is invaluable in providing quality service to Harlan residents.
