Harlan Youth Shine at Northeast Classic Livestock Show
Local youth showcased their skills at the Northeast Classic, with Harlan's Makensy Henneman earning a reserve champion title amidst fierce competition. Discover how this event promotes agriculture and supports community youth through livestock excellence.
The Northeast Classic livestock show kicked off the Thanksgiving weekend, drawing exhibitors from across Nebraska and Iowa, including local participants from Harlan. Held at the Chuck Pohlman Agriculture Complex in Norfolk, the event featured both market and breeding competitions.
Despite some challenges due to inclement weather, 75 market animals were on display, showcasing the high quality of livestock. Local standout, Makensy Henneman from Harlan, earned a reserve champion title in the Shorthorn Plus category.
The competition also highlighted numerous champions and reserve champions across various categories, with awards for multiple types of cattle breeds. The supreme champion market animal was a crossbred by Haidyn Suhr, while Brecken Udell's commercial heifer took the top spot in breeding.
This annual event not only promotes agricultural skills among youth but also supports the Northeast livestock judging team through fundraising efforts.
