Get ready, Harlan! The inaugural Deck the Homes Light Competition invites you to illuminate your neighborhood with holiday cheer. Shine up your homes for a chance to win prizes, support local charities, and spread joy this Christmas season!
HARLAN — The holiday spirit is shining bright this season as the 1st Annual Deck the Homes Light Competition returns to Harlan. This festive event invites residents to dress up their homes with dazzling lights and decorations, rekindling the charm of Christmas City.
Participation is free, with optional donations welcomed to support downtown and courthouse Christmas decorations through the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Local businesses are also backing the event by sponsoring prizes in Chamber Bucks for the top three displays.
Residents can register by completing the online form by December 15. Entries will be featured on a Facebook page for public voting, with the final judging set for December 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Homes are encouraged to have their lights ablaze during this time for the judges to enjoy.
In addition to holiday cheer, a food donation competition will run alongside. Participants can collect nonperishable food items at their homes, with the top collector receiving an extra prize. All donations will benefit the local food pantry.
