Harlan’s Staff Sgt. Jack Petersen Returns Home After Seven-Month Deployment
Harlan's Staff Sgt. Jack Petersen is home after a seven‑month stint with Operation Inherent Resolve — five months in Iraq, two in Kuwait. He was among about 250 Iowa Guard soldiers welcomed back; Gov. Kim Reynolds joined the ceremony.
HARLAN — Staff Sergeant Jack Petersen of Harlan has returned home after a seven-month deployment with Operation Inherent Resolve.
Petersen serves with the 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery Regiment of the Iowa National Guard. His unit spent five months in Iraq and two months in Kuwait.
He worked in the maintenance section, tracking vehicle upkeep and ordering needed parts to keep equipment ready.
Parents Steve and Tami Petersen attended the welcome-home ceremony. Petersen said it felt good to be home.
He was one of about 250 Iowa soldiers in the first wave to return. A photo from the ceremony shows Petersen with his parents and Gov. Kim Reynolds.
