The Iowa Supreme Court has reselected Harlan native Susan Larson Christensen as Chief Justice, beginning her new term on January 1, 2025. Chief Justice Christensen previously served from 2020 and stepped in after the passing of Chief Justice Mark Cady in 2019. She is only the second woman to hold this prestigious position in Iowa.

As Chief Justice, she oversees oral arguments, manages court operations, and addresses the legislature annually regarding the judiciary's status. Prior to her judicial career, she practiced law in Harlan for 16 years and has been active in various child-focused committees throughout her career.
Born and raised in Harlan, Christensen holds degrees from Judson College and Creighton University School of Law. She and her husband have five children and nine grandchildren.
