HCHS Cyclones Shine at Trojan Invitational Despite Mixed Results

The HCHS Cyclones cross country team had a mixed performance at the Trojan Invitational held recently. The girls team secured a commendable third place with 107 points, while the boys team finished 15th with 320 points.

Head Coach Zach Klaassen noted that the team struggled, particularly in the early stages of the race. However, some individuals shined, including sophomore Erik Heslink, who was the top finisher for the boys, placing 21st with a time of 18:19.2. Coach Klaassen expressed optimism about Heslink's improvement.

On the girls' side, senior Lindsey Sonderman finished third overall with a strong time of 19:05.3. Freshman Ashlyn Rau excelled as well, coming in sixth place with a time of 20:20.3. Other notable finishes included Aspen Bieker and Brylee Schechinger.

Despite the challenging day, Klaassen highlighted the team's success this season, noting they have won seven meets. The Cyclones will look to bounce back as they prepare for the Hawkeye Ten Conference Meet on Thursday at the Carroll Municipal Golf Course.
