HMU Celebrates 70 Years of Gas Service in Harlan
Harlan Municipal Utilities is celebrating a significant milestone—70 years of natural gas service in our community! With recent upgrades enhancing capacity and reliability, HMU is poised for future growth. Discover how these changes impact Harlan residents!
Harlan Municipal Utilities (HMU) is gearing up for a bright future as it marks 70 years of natural gas service in Harlan. In an effort to meet the city's growing needs, HMU has recently upgraded its town border station on Highway 44.
Since beginning service in 1954, HMU has expanded its gas main lines to 40 miles within Harlan. The latest upgrades, completed in September at a cost of approximately $750,000, will allow for increased gas volume to support local businesses and community growth.
With winter approaching, HMU CEO Joe Rueschenberg noted that while gas rates may rise due to temperature and consumption, efforts are in place to manage costs. Currently, HMU operates 2,300 gas meters and is focused on ensuring a reliable supply for Harlan residents.
As Harlan looks ahead, Rueschenberg's message is clear: "It’s all looking forward to the future." For more in-depth information about HMU's initiatives, be sure to check out the full article! Read the full article here.
