Four local residents have been nominated to serve on the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Shelby County Extension Council, with their names set to appear on the ballot for the general election on November 5, 2024.
Announced by nomination committee chair Nate Botine from Harlan, the nominees include Kathy Fara and Michelle Monson from Irwin, along with Harlan's Matt Worthey and Kristi Travis. Additionally, Botine has been nominated to fill an unexpired two-year term.
Current council members Chad Heithoff of Harlan and Gwen Hanson of Kirkman will not seek re-election. To finalize their nominations, candidates must file papers with the county auditor by August 28, 2024. Others interested in running can collect petition forms at the county auditor’s office.
The Shelby County Extension Council plays a vital role in supporting local communities by partnering with Iowa State University to address educational and developmental challenges.
