Remembering Barbara Ducat: Harlan Native's Lasting Legacy

Barbara Towne Ducat, a proud Harlan, Iowa native, passed away on May 28, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 64. Born on December 5, 1960, Barbara's early life in Harlan shaped her tenacity and curiosity.

A valedictorian at Elk Horn High School, she furthered her education at Iowa State University and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Barbara’s professional journey included over 13 years at Cargill and various leadership roles at major companies, where she made significant contributions to global teams and championed diversity and inclusion.

After retiring in 2022, Barbara was diagnosed with ALS, which she faced with remarkable strength. She dedicated her final years to raising awareness and funding for ALS research, establishing a scholarship program in Elk Horn to inspire high school students towards meaningful careers.

Barbara leaves behind her husband Michael and children Samuel and Grace. Her legacy of dedication and service continues to resonate, marked by her impactful community initiatives.
