Remembering Barbara Jean Fryzek: A Harlan Native's Legacy

Barbara Jean (Soe) Fryzek, a beloved resident of Glenwood, IA, passed away at the age of 89 on January 19, 2025, in Council Bluffs. Born on November 14, 1935, in Harlan, IA, Barbara was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School and furthered her education as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.

She married Dr. Robert Kenneth Fryzek on June 18, 1960, and was the proud mother of five children: Robert Jr., Jon, Todd, Jana, and Matthew. Known for her warmth and hospitality, Barbara enjoyed cooking, gardening, and decorating for holidays. She was active in several organizations, including Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Mercy Hospital Guild, and even served as president of the Pottawattamie-Mills County Medical Auxiliary.

Visitation is planned for January 24 from 4 to 6 p.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial on January 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood. Barbara is survived by her husband, children, and many grandchildren. Memorials can be made to the P.E.O. Scholarship or Mills County Historical Society.
