Remembering Larry Sargent: Harlan's Beloved "Can Man"
Harlan's community mourns the loss of Larry Sargent, affectionately known as “The Can Man.” Renowned for his craftsmanship and commitment, Larry left a lasting legacy. Discover how friends and family honored his memory during a heartfelt visitation.
Larry Eugene Sargent, a beloved Harlan resident, passed away on February 28 at the age of 62. He was the son of Lester and Mary Sargent and was born on November 4, 1947, in Cherokee, Iowa.
Larry was known for his hard work and craftsmanship, operating The Can Place in Harlan, earning him the nickname “The Can Man.” Prior to moving to Harlan in 1983, he worked as a carpenter and honed his skills in woodworking and furniture building.
Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lana; two sons, Timothy and David Sargent; and several siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Friends and family paid their respects during a memorial visitation at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan on March 6.
