Remembering Patricia Jean Esbeck: A Lifelong Harlan Legacy

Patricia Jean Esbeck, a longtime Harlan resident, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on October 25, 2024, in Atlantic. Born on July 14, 1933, she attended Harlan Community School District before marrying Levi Petersen in 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. The couple farmed in Audubon and Shelby counties and raised four children together.

After her husband's death, Pat found love again with Robert Esbeck. She dedicated nearly 37 years to working at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, and was a devoted member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church. An avid gardener, she particularly loved planting petunias and cherished spending time with her family during various activities and gatherings.

Pat is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several loving relatives and friends, including her lifelong friend, Marilyn Nelson. A visitation will be held on November 1, 2024, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, followed by a prayer service and interment at Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
