Remembering Shirley Knudtson: A Harlan Community Pillar

Shirley Irene Knudtson, a beloved figure in Harlan, passed away on July 28, 2025, at the age of 99. Born on May 16, 1926, in Atlantic, Iowa, she moved to Harlan in 1948 after marrying Arnold Knudtson. They enjoyed a long marriage of 62 years, during which Shirley was actively involved in her community and faith.

Shirley dedicated 22 years of her career to the Harlan Public Schools as a cook and was a cherished member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She volunteered for the American Legion Auxiliary and Myrtue Hospital Auxiliary, and enjoyed time with friends at local spots such as Burger King.

Shirley is survived by three children, six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, followed by funeral services on Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
