Shelby County Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Meth Conspiracy

A Shelby County man, Sean Patrick Gifford, has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The sentencing, which took place on January 14, 2025, was announced by U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal.

Gifford, 41, was involved in two high-speed chases with law enforcement in early January 2024, one of which occurred through Harlan and Avoca on Interstate 80. During these incidents, he was found with over 190 grams of methamphetamine and nearly $30,000 in cash. Investigators also uncovered evidence from his cell phone linking him to the distribution of 4.5 kilograms of meth.

Upon his release, Gifford will be on supervised release for five years, with no possibility of parole in the federal system. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Council Bluffs Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
